Kenya LPG Consumption Rises 14.72 Percent in 2025
Kenya increased its liquefied petroleum gas consumption to 475,943 metric tonnes in 2025, driven by tax exemptions and expanded distribution infrastructure.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumption in Kenya rose by 14.72 percent in 2025, reaching 475,943 metric tonnes compared to 414,861 metric tonnes in 2024. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority attributed this growth to the zero-rating of the product, which increased affordability for institutions and households, and the expansion of storage, importation, and distribution infrastructure.
Per capita consumption increased from 7.9 kilograms to 8.9 kilograms during this period. To maintain this momentum, the government is implementing the National LPG Growth Strategy. This initiative focuses on increasing LPG adoption in residential reticulation, public learning institutions, and through cylinder distribution for low-income households to decrease the national reliance on biomass and traditional cooking fuels.
