Israel Intensifies Southern Lebanon Assaults Despite Failed US-Led Talks
Israeli military forces intensified artillery shelling and home demolitions in southern Lebanon following the failure of US-sponsored technical military meetings in Florida.
The Israeli military intensified assaults in southern Lebanon on October 31, 2026, using artillery shelling, machine-gun fire, and the demolition of residential structures. The Lebanese National News Agency reported that forces blew up a home belonging to Hassan Nabaa and targeted the towns of Khiam, Qantara, Tayri, and Touline.
These escalations follow the failure of technical military meetings held on October 20 and 21 in Tampa, Florida, which were sponsored by the United States government but ended without a breakthrough. The violence persists despite a June 26 Framework Agreement designed to facilitate a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the disarmament of resistance groups and the deployment of the Lebanese army.
While the agreement established pilot areas, it has only been enacted in three towns, leaving more than 50 towns under Israeli occupation. Since military operations began on March 2, at least 4,386 people have been killed, 12,407 injured, and more than 1 million people displaced.
