Sri Lanka and Türkiye Sign Agriculture and Aviation Pacts
Sri Lanka and Türkiye signed bilateral agreements in Ankara to expand cooperation in agricultural technology and enhance civil aviation connectivity.
The Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Türkiye signed two bilateral agreements in Ankara on October 27, 2026, to expand cooperation in agriculture and air transport. The deals were finalized during the first official visit to the Turkish capital by Sri Lankan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra.
One agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation signed by Hemachandra and Turkish Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Bağcı, creates a framework for technical collaboration and knowledge sharing. The pact focuses on adopting modern farming technologies to increase productivity and improve food security.
In a separate agreement, Hemachandra and Turkish Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Enver İskurt signed a Protocol Amending the Air Transport Agreement. This protocol updates a 2008 agreement to improve civil aviation cooperation and air connectivity, with the goal of increasing trade, investment, and tourism between the two nations.
