Hitachi Implements Tiered AI Strategy to Manage Costs
Hitachi is adopting a tiered AI framework and partnering with Appian Corporation to integrate fragmented data across 150 CRM systems.
The Japanese conglomerate Hitachi, Ltd. is implementing a tiered enterprise AI strategy to address escalating token costs and data complexity. Rather than deploying a single company-wide tool, the company has organized AI adoption into three distinct categories: everyday productivity tools such as Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, job-specific tools for sales and creative teams, and AI coding assistants developed in collaboration with Anthropic PBC.
To resolve fragmentation across 150 different CRM systems, Hitachi, Ltd. partnered with Appian Corporation to create a data fabric. This integration has led to a 20% reduction in operating costs and a 40% efficiency gain for sales and marketing teams. These infrastructure improvements are intended to prepare the company for a future involving agentic AI.
Bala Krishnapillai, CIO of Hitachi's Americas division, stated that while the company aims for future autonomy, it is currently prioritizing security protocols and monitoring systems. These measures are designed to prevent risks associated with rogue AI agents and ensure that token consumption remains manageable from an IT enterprise standpoint.
