Ireland Reduces Childcare Costs in Budget 2027

Minister for Finance Simon Harris announced childcare cost reductions for Budget 2027 to lower monthly expenses for families with children up to senior infants.

Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris announced significant childcare cost reductions as part of Budget 2027. Starting in September, the maximum monthly cost for childcare for children up to senior infants will drop from €735 to €550, providing families with annual savings exceeding €1,800.

The budget also expands support for providers by increasing tax relief for childminders from €15,000 to €20,000. These measures are designed to alleviate the financial pressure on working parents while maintaining the stability of long-term public finances.

Fine Gael Spokesperson on Childcare Emer Currie stated that the measures utilize a strong economy to make daily life more affordable. She noted that childcare costs often hit household budgets hardest and that the budget aims to return that money to families.
