Airbus Suspends Four-Day On-Site Work Mandate After Strikes
Airbus suspended a plan requiring white-collar employees to work on-site four days a week following strikes in Spain and protests in France and Britain.
Airbus suspended its plan to mandate that white-collar employees work on-site four days a week after facing strikes in Spain and protests in France and Britain. The company had sought to limit remote work to one day per week to improve collective efficiency and knowledge transfer, specifically for the 25% to 33% of staff hired within the last three years.
CEO Guillaume Faury championed the return-to-office push to ensure skills were shared in person as the company manages record demand. However, management now allows staff to maintain existing arrangements, which average two days of remote work per week.
The retreat follows significant unrest in Spain, where approximately 40% of the 14,000 workers participated in strikes over teleworking, salary, and other conditions. While production remains unaffected, the situation highlights industry-wide challenges in attracting Gen-Z talent who prioritize work-life balance over traditional corporate structures.
