Turkmenistan Hosts CIS Summit and Azerbaijan Bilateral Talks

Addressing the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of Heads of State, Berdimuhamedov reported steady development in trade and economic ties within the organization, noting positive momentum in aggregate trade turnover and an expanded political agenda.

He characterized the CIS as a vital platform for addressing international issues and called for the organization to realize its potential across political, economic, and humanitarian spheres. Berdimuhamedov specifically emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships with other international structures, including the United Nations.

In a separate bilateral meeting on October 8, Berdimuhamedov met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. The leaders focused on expanding cooperation in energy, transport, and logistics, with a particular emphasis on multimodal shipping across the Caspian Sea. The meeting occurred alongside Aliyev's participation in the Caspian Environmental Summit and a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan. Both presidents committed to strengthening ties in science, education, and culture while pledging mutual support within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations.
