UK Retail and Hospitality Chains Close Hundreds of Locations
Multiple UK retail and hospitality chains are shutting hundreds of locations this month, including Whitbread, Modella Capital, and the British Heart Foundation.
A wave of closures is impacting high streets across the United Kingdom this month as major retail and hospitality chains shut hundreds of locations. Whitbread is closing more than 260 restaurants, bars, and pubs to transition toward an "integrated food and beverage offer." These closures include all 106 Beefeater sites, 20 Bar+ Block locations, more than 30 Table Table branches, and all 14 Cookhouse + Pub branches.
Retail closures are equally widespread. Modella Capital is shutting 150 TG Jones stationery and bookshops, while footwear retailer Wynsors is closing 17 stores. The corner shop chain Foreways also ceased operations earlier this month.
In the charity sector, the British Heart Foundation is closing 150 stores following a £3.3m loss. These closures are affecting specific regions such as Oxfordshire, where the Applecart Beefeater in Oxford and a British Heart Foundation shop in Abingdon are among the sites slated for closure.
