Microsoft Targets Apple for World's Most Valuable Company
Microsoft Corporation aims to surpass Apple Inc. as the world's most valuable company by 2027 through aggressive AI integration and usage-based billing.
Market analysts predict Microsoft Corporation could overtake Apple Inc. as the world's most valuable company by the end of 2027. While Apple currently leads with a market capitalization of $4.9 trillion compared to Microsoft's $3.9 trillion, Microsoft is leveraging rapid growth in its Azure cloud business and the adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which has reached 30 million paid seats.
To accelerate revenue growth, CEO Satya Nadella is transitioning the company from fixed subscription pricing toward usage-based billing for AI services. Nadella has stated that AI needs "diffusion inside the enterprise" to maximize its impact.
This growth strategy comes with significant financial risk. Microsoft's capital expenditures rose nearly 80% to $115.95 billion in fiscal 2026, with projections reaching $175 billion for fiscal 2027. In contrast, Apple maintains a more cautious AI strategy and faces internal uncertainty regarding its new leadership and the launch of upcoming foldable phone products.
