Four Louisiana Congressional Incumbents Win Re-election

Republican incumbents Steve Scalise, Mike Johnson, and Clay Higgins and Democrat Troy Carter all won re-election in Louisiana's November 3 congressional contests.

Four congressional incumbents in Louisiana secured re-election during the November 3 elections. Steve Scalise, the House Majority Leader, won approximately 63% of the vote in the 1st District, defeating Democrat Lauren Jewett, Republican Randall Arrington, and independent Liddy Glass. The race followed a Supreme Court ruling that the state's previous map was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

In the 3rd District, Republican Clay Higgins won a landslide victory to begin his sixth term, receiving 129,203 votes compared to 49,162 for his nearest competitor, Democrat John Day. House Speaker Mike Johnson won the 4th District with 58% of the vote, while Democrat Troy Carter secured the 2nd District with 75% of the vote.

Despite these individual victories, Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise are projected to lose their leadership roles as Speaker and Majority Leader, respectively, as Democrats are expected to flip the U.S. House of Representatives.
