Republicans and Democrats Split Key Arizona Congressional Seats
Republicans and Democrats split several contested congressional seats in Arizona following the November 5 midterm elections, with some races still awaiting final counts.
The November 5 midterm elections resulted in a split of key congressional seats in Arizona, with several races decided by narrow margins. Democrats flipped two seats, as emergency room physician Amish Shah replaced Republican David Schweikert and Marine veteran JoAnna Mendoza defeated Republican Juan Ciscomani.
Republicans secured a narrow victory in the 5th Congressional District, where former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb defeated Democrat Elizabeth Lee. Other races remain undecided or slim; Republican Representative Abe Hamadeh leads Democrat Bernadette Greene-Placentia in the 8th District, and Representative Eli Crane holds a slim lead over former Navajo Nation president Jonathan Nez in the 2nd District, where 10% of ballots are still uncounted.
Campaign finance data shows that high spending did not always ensure victory. Republicans spent over $27 million to support Jay Feely, who lost his race to a Democrat who spent $17.5 million. Conversely, Democratic spending of over $26 million helped secure JoAnna Mendoza's win in Tucson. Significant outside funding flowed through super PACs, including Elon Musk's America PAC and the Trump-affiliated No Going Back PAC.
