Norsk Hydro Restores Alunorte Gas Supplies After Production Drop
Norsk Hydro ASA restored natural gas deliveries to its Alunorte refinery through a deal with CELBA after supply disruptions caused significant production losses.
Norsk Hydro ASA restored natural gas deliveries to its majority-owned Alunorte alumina refinery after securing a temporary terminal access agreement with gas supplier CELBA. The deal follows a supply disruption that forced the refinery to reduce alumina production, resulting in an estimated output loss of 100,000 to 120,000 tons.
Alunorte has begun increasing production levels following the agreement. Norsk Hydro expects the disruption to have a financial impact between USD 75 million and 100 million for the third quarter of 2026. This loss stems from both the reduced output and the requirement to purchase gas at prices exceeding the original contract rate.
