Central Bank of India and HDFC Bank Report Q2 Profits
Central Bank of India and HDFC Bank reported second-quarter FY27 profits, with the former seeing a 40.58 percent surge and the latter missing analyst expectations.
Major Indian financial institutions reported divergent second-quarter results for FY27 ending September 30, 2026. The Central Bank of India reported a consolidated net profit of ₹1,718.60 crore, marking a 40.58 percent increase from the ₹1,222.00 crore earned in the same period last year. This growth was supported by a total consolidated income of ₹11,778.67 crore and improved asset quality, as the consolidated net non-performing assets percentage fell to 0.31 percent from 0.48 percent.
In contrast, HDFC Bank reported a net profit of Rs 19,610 crore, a 5.2 percent year-on-year increase that failed to meet analyst expectations. The miss was attributed to higher provisions, which rose 2.1 percent to Rs 3,574 crore, and a net interest income of Rs 34,619 crore that fell short of estimates. Despite the profit miss, the bank saw balance sheet growth, with average deposits rising 16.8 percent to Rs 31.66 lakh crore and average advances increasing 14.1 percent to Rs 31.87 lakh crore.
Both institutions reported improvements in asset quality. HDFC Bank's gross non-performing asset ratio declined to 1.11 percent from 1.24 percent. Following the announcement, HDFC Bank shares closed flat at Rs 728.10 on the BSE, continuing a 12 percent year-to-date decline.
