Israel Attributes Yom Kippur Hospital Cyberattack to Iran

The National Cyber Directorate announced Wednesday that Iranian actors conducted a cyberattack on the Shamir Medical Center, also known as Assaf Harofeh Hospital, during Yom Kippur. The operation resulted in a data breach of sensitive patient information and an attempt to disrupt hospital operations. While a ransomware group from Eastern Europe initially claimed responsibility, Israeli authorities later attributed the activity to Iran.

Officials stated that no medical services were harmed and the central medical record system remained uncompromised. This attack was part of a larger Iranian campaign targeting more than ten private Israeli firms and IT service providers, frequently using stolen credentials to gain system access.

The National Cyber Directorate coordinated a response with the Shin Bet, Israel Defense Forces, and various government ministries to contain the incidents. Yossi Karadi, head of the National Cyber Directorate, stated that the attempt to harm a hospital crossed a red line that could have endangered human life.
