Volvo Cars to Launch 13 New Models by 2030
Volvo Cars will launch 13 new vehicle models by 2030, utilizing a mix of electric and hybrid powertrains to double its global market share.
Volvo Cars announced a global product offensive to launch 13 new vehicle models by 2030, describing the move as the largest and most ambitious product push in its 99-year history. The strategy splits production between seven models for Western markets, including North America and Europe, and six models specifically for China.
Moving away from a previous pledge to become exclusively electric by 2030, the company will now offer a mix of fully electric vehicles and third-generation hybrids to accommodate customers reluctant to transition to EVs. Western models will utilize SPA2 and SPA3 architectures, while Chinese models will share platforms with parent company Geely Holding to reduce costs. Volvo Cars aims to increase component commonality with Geely Holding from 10 percent to 30 percent by 2030.
The expansion includes a move into new market segments, specifically low and high body types. This signals a potential return to station wagons and the development of a new electric sedan and station wagon for the United States, potentially named the ES60 and EV60, for a 2028 release. A compact electric SUV, the EX50, is expected in fall 2027 to replace the EX40.
Chief Design Officer Thomas Ingenlath is leading an evolved styling language for future models, with a new concept car scheduled for 2027. The company also plans to implement a simplified commercial model featuring transparent pricing to support its goal of becoming the leading premium car brand.
