TG Jones to Close Clacton Store Amid Nationwide Restructuring

Retailer TG Jones will close its store on Pier Avenue in Clacton, Essex, on January 12, 2027, following a closing down sale. The site has been listed for sale for £1.25 million. This closure is part of a court-approved restructuring plan intended to secure the company's long-term future while addressing rising operating costs and a shift toward online shopping.

The wider restructuring program could result in approximately 150 nationwide closures and thousands of job losses. TG Jones, which was rebranded after Modella Capital purchased the high street business of WHSmith in 2025, has already confirmed closures in Basildon, Southend, and Maldon.

Court documents described the business as highly distressed and facing an urgent funding shortfall. To address these financial pressures, Modella Capital has provided additional financial backing to the retailer.
