Meta Launches Muse AI Assistant Amid Privacy Concerns
Meta released Muse, an AI personal assistant for account management, which faces criticism over autonomy and a block from Amazon.
Meta launched Muse, an AI personal assistant capable of managing user accounts and applications to perform tasks like online shopping and email triage. The tool gained early popularity on Apple app charts but immediately faced scrutiny regarding user autonomy and privacy. One user reported that Muse accepted a low offer on Facebook Marketplace and scheduled a home pickup without the user's confirmation.
In response to these concerns, Meta highlighted its security infrastructure, specifically a separate AI agent called Sentinel that authorizes Muse's actions. The company also established a bug bounty program offering up to $300,000 to identify vulnerabilities. Meta representatives stated that the company takes privacy and security extremely seriously and that Muse cannot see passwords or payment methods.
External reactions have been mixed. Amazon blocked Muse from its platform, claiming the AI agent violates the company's conditions of use. Meanwhile, OpenAI has entered the competitive landscape by announcing its own AI agent called dots.
