TSMC Launches Space Chip Division for Lunar Missions

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is launching a dedicated space chip division to support the development of satellite constellations and lunar missions. The company currently serves as a primary semiconductor supplier for the aerospace and defense sectors, providing silicon used in F-35 fighter jets.

Reliance on the company's technology is extensive within the U.S. military. The United States Air Force estimates that 90% of its precision-guided munitions rely on chips produced by the firm.

While the company is diversifying its manufacturing footprint by constructing new plants in the United States, it remains exposed to geopolitical tensions between China and Taiwan. These tensions present a continuing risk to the company's foundry infrastructure.
