Aam Aadmi Party Reports 68% Drop in Annual Donations

The Aam Aadmi Party reported a 68% decline in contributions for the 2025-26 financial year, receiving Rs 12.10 crore compared to Rs 38.10 crore the previous year. According to filings submitted to the Election Commission of India, approximately 83% of these funds came from just two donors: Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited, which contributed Rs 5 crore each.

Trident Limited was founded by Rajinder Gupta, a former AAP Rajya Sabha member who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in April 2026. Filings indicate that Gupta signed the Trident cheques in January 2026 while still associated with AAP. Other donors included party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who contributed Rs 30,000, former Delhi chief minister Atishi, and Punjab AAP president Aman Arora. Ashutosh Ranka, a former party spokesperson and current co-convener of the Cockroach Janta Party, also donated Rs 21,100.

This funding contraction marks the first full financial year since the party lost power in Delhi in February 2025, although it continues to govern Punjab. Other regional parties also saw declines in contributions, with the Telugu Desam Party reporting Rs 58.25 crore and the YSR Congress Party reporting Rs 24.31 crore. The Biju Janata Dal reported no contributions exceeding Rs 20,000.
