Pakistan Army Destroys Taliban Posts in Border Clashes

The Pakistan Army launched retaliatory artillery strikes against Afghan Taliban positions in Upper Kurram after militants attempted to infiltrate Pakistani territory.

The Pakistan Army launched retaliatory artillery strikes against Afghan Taliban positions in the Upper Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on October 17, 2026. The clashes, which lasted several hours, occurred in the Taida sector and Ghuz Garhi area after Afghan military personnel allegedly opened fire on Pakistani positions to facilitate the infiltration of foreign militants into Pakistan.

Pakistani forces targeted the Tapsar post and the Shipola base camp, reportedly destroying the latter and killing several Afghan soldiers and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants. Some Taliban forces abandoned their border posts during the engagement. While Pakistani security officials confirmed the use of artillery to neutralize the infiltration attempt, the Afghan Taliban government has not issued a comment on the incident.

This confrontation follows a year of escalating tensions and deteriorating relations between Islamabad and Kabul. The friction includes Pakistani airstrikes in September targeting militant hideouts in Afghanistan and a surge of militant violence within Pakistan. Pakistani authorities maintain that the TTP uses Afghanistan as a sanctuary, an allegation the government in Kabul denies.
