Google Launches Gemini AI Navigation for Apple CarPlay
Google integrated its Gemini AI assistant into Google Maps for Apple CarPlay users to enable conversational, multi-step voice navigation.
Google launched conversational Gemini AI navigation for Apple CarPlay users in the United States, with a global rollout currently underway. The update enables drivers to interact with Google Maps using a voice assistant to execute multi-step requests, such as asking for destination recommendations and then initiating navigation to those sites while avoiding toll roads.
Users can access the feature by tapping the Gemini icon on their vehicle's infotainment display to report traffic disruptions or find information about stops hands-free.
While the tool expands AI capabilities for CarPlay, it does not currently include the Personal Intelligence features available for Android Auto and Google-built vehicles. Those specific capabilities allow the assistant to access private user data from Gmail, Calendar, and other Google applications.
