US Embassy Warns El Salvadorans Against Illegal Border Entry
The US Embassy in El Salvador warned migrants that illegal entry into the United States will result in detention, deportation, and prosecution.
The US Embassy in El Salvador issued a public warning on October 6, 2026, stating that illegal entry into the United States will not work regardless of whether migrants travel alone, with smugglers, or in caravans. The embassy cautioned that individuals attempting illegal entry will face detention, deportation, and prosecution.
This warning follows the September 27 departure of the Fe y Esperanza migrant caravan from Tapachula, Mexico. The group reportedly consists of more than 600 people from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Haiti. While most members of the caravan are heading toward the U.S. border, some reports indicate that certain individuals intend to settle in Mexico.
The embassy's message aligns with a January 20, 2025, presidential order titled "Securing Our Borders." This order mandated the increased detention and removal of illegal entrants and terminated the border appointment function of the CBP One app.
