Higgsfield AI Releases First Fully Synthetic Feature Films
Higgsfield AI released two entirely AI-generated feature films, sparking an industry debate over the replacement of human actors with synthetic performers.
The film industry is facing a shift toward synthetic performance following the release of two entirely AI-generated feature films, Hell Grind and The Cully Hill Boys, by Higgsfield Inc. The company claims its technology has eliminated the uncanny valley and can significantly shortcut traditional production timelines.
This development follows the emergence of AI-generated actors, such as a synthetic version of the late Val Kilmer in As Deep as the Grave and the AI starlet Tilly Norwood. Adil Alimzhanov of Higgsfield AI argues that these tools democratize filmmaking and liberate artists by transforming industry structures.
Industry professionals remain divided on the impact. Tim Webber of Framestore and Tye Sheridan of Wonder Dynamics argue that AI lacks the internal emotional complexity required for genuine human performance. To balance efficiency with artistry, some creators are adopting hybrid methods. These include using AI for digital makeup or employing augmented motion capture through tools like Aether Media's Flow Studio to maintain a human core while reducing costs.
