Hanwha Defense USA Invests $2.2 Billion in Arkansas Factory

Hanwha Defense USA announced a $2.2 billion investment to construct an advanced manufacturing campus at the U.S. Army Pine Bluff Arsenal in Arkansas. The company opened its administrative headquarters on September 21, 2026, marking the first phase of a project that expects the full factory to be operational by 2031. The facility will produce 155mm propellant charges and base bleed units to increase the speed and range of U.S. munitions.

The project is expected to create approximately 400 jobs over seven years, with an average wage of $50 per hour. This investment, which grew from an initial $1.3 billion estimate, is part of a larger $6 billion capital investment plan for Jefferson County. The deal was facilitated through a federal enhanced use lease program, allowing the U.S. Army to lease underutilized land for defense production and generate revenue for infrastructure reinvestment.

The initiative aligns with Pentagon efforts to replenish military stockpiles depleted by the war in Iran. The agreement followed 18 months of coordination involving the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and members of the state's congressional delegation. Officials stated the move ensures the arsenal remains a critical national security asset amid broader Army consolidation efforts.
