Early Voting Surges in Idaho and New York Counties

Voters in Kootenai County, Idaho, and Ontario County, New York, are casting early ballots ahead of the November general elections.

Early voting is underway in Kootenai County, Idaho, and Ontario County, New York, as residents prepare for the November elections. In Kootenai County, over 20,000 residents have already cast ballots, representing roughly 18% of registered voters. This total includes 13,000 absentee ballots and 7,500 early votes, the latter of which marks a 40% increase over the 2022 midterms.

Kootenai County officials attribute the increased interest to Proposition One regarding reproductive freedom and House Joint Resolution 4. The latter measure would grant the Idaho Legislature sole authority to legalize psychoactive substances.

In Ontario County, 5,182 people voted early during the first three days of a period ending November 1, while 2,196 mail ballots have been returned. Data from the Ontario County Board of Elections shows that 2,605 early voters are enrolled in Democratic or Working Families parties, 1,435 in Republican or Conservative parties, and 1,142 are unaffiliated or members of minor parties.
