Azerbaijan Calls for International Aid to Find 3,682 Missing

Azerbaijan's Human Rights Commissioner Sabina Aliyeva issued a statement on August 30 to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. Aliyeva highlighted the continued suffering of families affected by the First and Second Garabagh Wars, reporting that 3,682 Azerbaijani citizens remain missing.

According to data from the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of Azerbaijan, the state has identified 328 individuals and returned the remains of 250 people to their families. These results followed searches of 32 mass graves located in liberated territories.

Aliyeva called on former parties to the conflict and international humanitarian institutions to increase cooperation. She specifically requested intensified efforts in DNA analysis, forensic examination, and the sharing of information regarding mass graves to determine the fate of the missing.
