Inflation Outpaces Wage Growth as 63% of Americans Live Paycheck-to-Paycheck

Americans are experiencing a decline in spending power as inflation continues to outpace wage growth. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for July shows that average hourly earnings rose by 3.2% year over year, marking the slowest growth rate in five years. During the same period, the Consumer Price Index indicated that inflation increased by 3.4%.

This economic pressure is driven in part by rising energy prices resulting from the Iran war. The gap between earnings and costs has left a significant portion of the population financially strained. A July Quarterly Money Survey conducted by CNBC and SurveyMonkey found that 63% of Americans are currently living paycheck-to-paycheck.
