U.S. Stocks Rise on Anthropic IPO Filing
U.S. stock markets opened higher Monday as investors reacted to an Anthropic IPO filing and prepared for Federal Reserve interest rate decisions.
United States stock markets opened higher on Monday, October 26, driven by investor interest following an initial public offering filing by Anthropic. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 105.3 points to 52,320.45, the S&P 500 increased 16.0 points to 7,639.7, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 71.5 points to 26,026.865.
Market attention is now centered on the Federal Reserve System meeting scheduled for October 27 and 28. While the Fed Rate Monitor indicates an 88.5% probability that rates will remain unchanged this week, there is a 75.7% chance of a rate increase by December 9. The central bank previously raised its target range to 3.75%–4.00% in September to combat inflation.
Investors are also awaiting third-quarter earnings reports from Alphabet Inc. and Microsoft on Wednesday evening, followed by Amazon.com on Thursday. Key economic data, including the first estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September core PCE deflator, are due Thursday. Internationally, the Bank of Canada and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand are expected to raise rates by 25 basis points on Wednesday, while the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan are expected to hold rates.
