Mossad Joins Probe Into Qatar and Turkey Election Interference

Israel's Mossad and Shin Bet are investigating allegations that Qatar and Turkey used illegal money transfers to influence parliamentary elections.

The Mossad intelligence agency has joined a Shin Bet investigation into allegations that the governments of Qatar and Turkey attempted to influence Israel's parliamentary elections. The probe focuses on suspected illegal money transfers and efforts to sway voters, though officials clarified that the investigation does not involve ballot tampering.

Justice Noam Sohlberg, Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, requested the probe after receiving a briefing from Shin Bet Director David Zini. Sohlberg stated that the investigation is necessary to safeguard the integrity of the elections and prevent subversion by foreign actors. While the Central Elections Committee maintains that the elections were conducted lawfully and the results remain unaffected, the agencies are working to determine the extent of the foreign involvement.

Qatar and Turkey have both categorically denied the accusations. Qatar's Foreign Ministry described the claims as a disinformation campaign designed to pull the country into Israel's internal political disputes.
