Louisiana Department of Revenue Urges Taxpayers to Claim $17.5 Million

The Louisiana Department of Revenue is urging approximately 22,751 individual and business taxpayers to claim more than $17.5 million in unclaimed state tax refunds. The agency mailed notices to eligible taxpayers on July 24, warning that these funds must be claimed by September 4, 2026.

Taxpayers can secure their refunds by visiting the department's website, using the Louisiana Taxpayer Access Point portal, or returning the voucher attached to the notification letter. All approved claims submitted by the deadline will be paid via paper checks.

Any funds remaining unclaimed after September 4 will be transferred to the Unclaimed Property Division of the Louisiana State Treasurer’s Office. While the money remains the property of the taxpayers after the transfer, it must then be retrieved through the treasurer's office. The Louisiana State Treasurer’s Office reports that more than $1 billion in total abandoned financial assets, including forgotten bank accounts and uncashed checks, are currently waiting to be claimed by residents.
