AARP Poll Shows Deadlock in Michigan Senate Race

An AARP poll indicates a statistical tie in Michigan's U.S. Senate race and a five-point lead for Jocelyn Benson in the gubernatorial contest.

An AARP poll released Thursday reveals a statistical deadlock in the Michigan U.S. Senate race, with Democrat Abdul El Sayed holding a narrow 48-47 lead over Republican Mike Rogers. The result falls within the survey's 3.3% margin of error, with 5% of likely voters remaining undecided.

Data shows a sharp age divide in the Senate contest. El Sayed leads voters aged 18-49 by 16 points but trails those over 50 by 9 points. In the gubernatorial race, Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson leads Republican Representative John James 49-44, though she trails voters over 50 by one point.

While foreign policy dominated the Democratic primary, the general electorate now prioritizes the economy and cost of living. Other primary concerns include threats to democracy, immigration, and government spending. The poll, conducted between August 9 and 11, 2026, surveyed 877 likely Michigan voters and identified women over 50 as a key swing constituency.
