Iran Minister Joins BRICS Disaster Risk Meeting in New Delhi

Iranian Minister of Interior Eskandar Momeni arrived in New Delhi on July 23, 2026, to participate in the BRICS Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction scheduled for the following day. The event is hosted by the National Disaster Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs as part of India's 2026 BRICS Chairmanship.
Chaired by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, the meeting brings together delegations from 10 BRICS member countries. The summit focuses on enhancing security cooperation and coordination against common threats, specifically targeting disaster management, counter-terrorism, internal security, and border security.
The proceedings include a High-Level Policy Dialogue centered on climate-smart and disaster-resilient infrastructure systems. This initiative follows the formal institutionalization of the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Group, which was established under the 2024 Kazan Declaration.
