NATO Eastern Flank Braces for Russian Hybrid Attacks

Security forces in Poland and the Baltic states have increased vigilance following intelligence warnings that Russia may target the NATO eastern flank. Gitanas Nausėda, President of Lithuania, and other regional leaders report that Moscow is seeking a new escalation to achieve a strategic win after failing to secure a decisive victory in Ukraine.

Lithuania has tightened security at electricity substations, gas supply systems, communications hubs, and bridges. Officials warn that Russia may employ hybrid tactics, including cyberespionage and limited kinetic operations against critical infrastructure. Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz specifically cautioned that Russia might use captured Ukrainian drones to simulate Ukrainian activity in false-flag operations across Poland, Romania, Finland, and the Baltic states.

NATO Military Committee Chair Giuseppe Cavo Dragone described the threat to the eastern flank as absolutely realistic but asserted that Russia would lose more than it could gain by attacking the alliance. While Lithuanian military leaders state there is no current evidence of a full-scale conventional invasion, they maintain that provocations remain possible. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has dismissed these warnings as scare stories and excuses for NATO military buildup.
