UNICEF Reports 23 Children Killed in North Kordofan Sudan

At least 23 children were killed and 25 others injured in the North Kordofan region of Sudan between late May and July 2026. This surge in casualties followed an intensification of conflict around the city of Al Obeid. The most recent fatal incident occurred on July 24 in the Burbur area, where four children between the ages of eight and 16 were killed.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reports that these deaths are part of a broader trend of violence, with at least 330 children killed or injured across Sudan during the first six months of 2026. The agency warns that three years of conflict, repeated displacement, and the destruction of schools and health facilities continue to endanger children's lives and rights.

UNICEF has called on all parties to the conflict to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilians and essential infrastructure. Sheldon Yett, the UNICEF Representative for Sudan, condemned the ongoing danger, stating that children continue to be the victims of the conflict.
