Korean Air Finalizes US$44.8 Billion Boeing Aircraft Order

Korean Air finalized purchase agreements on September 16, 2026, totaling US$44.8 billion for 103 aircraft from The Boeing Company and spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International. The transaction concludes a procurement plan first announced in August 2025 and represents the largest investment in the airline's history.

The deal allocates US$36.2 billion for the aircraft, which include 50 737 MAX 10s, 25 787-10s, 20 777-9s, and eight 777-8F freighters. An additional US$8.6 billion is committed to GE Aerospace and CFM International for spare engines for 21 aircraft and maintenance services for 28 aircraft over a period of 15 to 20 years.

CEO Walter Cho stated the newer aircraft will enable expansion into more destinations in the United States and Latin America, with roughly 80% of the new jets replacing existing fleet aircraft. The investment aims to support capacity growth following the integration of Asiana Airlines and meet carbon reduction goals through improved fuel efficiency. While Korean Air values the total package at US$44.8 billion, aviation firm IBA estimates the aircraft alone are worth approximately US$12.6 billion after discounts.
