Albemarle Q2 Earnings Beat Estimates on Lithium Price Recovery
Albemarle Corporation reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $3.75 per share, exceeding Wall Street expectations due to rebounding lithium prices and AI-driven battery demand.
Albemarle Corporation reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of $3.75 per share on $1.7 billion in revenue, surpassing Wall Street estimates of $3.20 per share and $1.6 billion in sales. This performance represents a sharp increase from the previous year, when the company earned $0.11 per share on $1.3 billion in revenue.
The growth follows a recovery in lithium prices, which are currently near $21,000 per metric ton. The company cited resilient demand from semiconductors, electric vehicles, and stationary battery storage. Specifically, the expansion of AI-driven data centers has increased the deployment of grid-scale battery energy storage systems, establishing a new demand source for lithium.
Despite the quarterly beat, the company's stock remains volatile and is down 16% year-to-date, though it has gained approximately 74% over the last 12 months. CEO J Kent Masters stated the company is focusing on high-value growth and disciplined capital allocation.
