Social Security Administration Announces 3.6% COLA Increase for 2027
The Social Security Administration announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027 benefits to help payments keep pace with inflation.
The Social Security Administration announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027 benefits. This represents a larger increase than the 2.8% adjustment implemented in 2026. For a beneficiary receiving $2,000 per month, the adjustment adds $72 to their monthly checks.
Officials stated the adjustment is intended to help benefits keep pace with inflation rather than increase overall purchasing power. However, the actual net increase for many seniors may be lower because Medicare Part B premiums are deducted directly from Social Security benefits. If Medicare Part B costs rise in 2027, those increases will offset a portion of the COLA raise.
