State Representative Francesca Hong is the front-runner in the Democratic primary for Governor of Wisconsin ahead of Tuesday's vote. A former chef and restaurant owner, Hong has faced criticism from Donald Trump and members of her own party regarding her past social media activity and policy positions, including proposals to abolish ICE and reduce police funding. While she has recently backtracked on some views, Governor Tony Evers and strategist David Axelrod have questioned her electability in a swing state.

High-profile socialist allies have distanced themselves from her campaign. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declined to endorse Hong, stating her focus remains on winning back the House and Senate. Senator Bernie Sanders and the national Democratic Socialists of America also refused to endorse her, though reports note Sanders previously endorsed a socialist candidate for governor in Maine.

The primary has been marked by significant instability. Candidates Sara Rodriguez and Mandela Barnes withdrew, and David Crowley briefly exited the race before returning with the endorsement of Governor Evers. Despite these headwinds and the lack of party establishment support, polling indicates Hong holds a significant lead over Crowley. If she wins the nomination, Hong will face Republican nominee Tom Tiffany in the November general election.
