US Maintains Middle East Troops After Iran Peace Deal

The United States is keeping 50,000 troops in the Middle East to ensure Iranian compliance following the signing of a peace agreement.

The Government of the United States will maintain its current military posture in the Middle East despite the electronic signing of a peace agreement with Iran. The administration is keeping nearly 50,000 troops in the region, including the aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush, to ensure Iranian compliance with the memorandum of understanding.

The opening phase of the agreement extends a ceasefire, reopens the Strait of Hormuz, and lifts the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports. However, critical issues including Iran's nuclear program remain deferred and are scheduled for resolution during negotiations over the next 60 days.

U.S. officials stated that any drawdown of forces is contingent upon a satisfactory final deal and verifiable compliance from Tehran. The current deployment serves as a guarantee that Iran adheres to the terms promised in the initial framework.
