Indonesia and Egypt Advance Trade Pact and Investment Fund

President Prabowo Subianto and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi signed four agreements and pushed for an Economic Partnership Agreement during a state visit to Jakarta.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on October 11, 2026, to advance a strategic partnership focused on trade and investment. The leaders agreed to establish a joint investment fund and push for an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) to strengthen bilateral commerce in strategic projects.

The visit resulted in the signing of four memoranda of understanding covering statistical cooperation, maritime affairs and fisheries, a strategic partnership action plan, and visa waivers for diplomatic, official, and special passport holders. To maintain this momentum, both nations agreed to increase regular high-level consultations.

Beyond economic ties, President Prabowo Subianto expressed support for Egypt's efforts to safeguard its water rights regarding the Nile River, stating regret over violations of international law or attempts to infringe upon the water rights of nations. This diplomatic engagement follows the 2025 elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. Trade between the two nations reached US$2.38 billion in 2025, with Indonesia maintaining a trade surplus of approximately US$1.5 billion, and trade totaling US$1.74 billion in the first half of 2026.
