Amazon Cuts 250 Jobs in Devices and Services Division
Amazon eliminated approximately 250 software development roles in its devices and services unit to improve operational efficiency and align with its product roadmap.
Amazon Inc. eliminated approximately 250 jobs from its devices and services unit on October 28, 2026. The layoffs primarily targeted software development roles and followed a structural review of the division, which manages consumer electronics such as Kindle e-readers, tablets, and Echo devices.
Employees received notification of the cuts via early-morning emails and text messages. Human resources vice president Cherie Robinson cited a thorough review of the company's structure, while a company spokesperson stated the reductions were intended to help the company operate more efficiently and better align with its product roadmap.
These cuts occurred the same day the company unveiled five new Alexa-powered devices, including an alarm clock and a photo frame. The move follows a pattern of workforce reductions throughout 2026, including approximately 1,000 job cuts in the core retail division earlier in October. These smaller reductions follow larger corporate layoffs of 14,000 and 16,000 employees in late 2025 and early 2026. The company is scheduled to report its third-quarter financial results on Thursday.
