Apple Leaks Camera-Equipped AirPods with Visual Intelligence

Apple accidentally leaked a demo of camera-equipped AirPods, codenamed B790, which use Visual Intelligence to allow Siri to analyze a user's environment.

Apple accidentally leaked a product demonstration of upcoming camera-equipped AirPods, internally codenamed B790, via a video file embedded in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate. The earbuds feature low-resolution cameras integrated into slightly thicker stems, designed to power a feature called Visual Intelligence. This tool allows Siri to analyze the wearer's environment to identify objects, provide walking directions, or save items for later without requiring an iPhone.

The leaked materials include a demo video of a user asking Siri to save a book they are looking at, as well as a system message warning users not to cover the cameras with hair. While the hardware resembles current AirPods Pro models, the cameras are intended as extra eyes for AI context rather than for traditional photography or continuous video recording.

The leak has sparked significant privacy concerns regarding the potential for unauthorized surveillance of bystanders. To mitigate these risks, the devices are expected to include indicator lights to signal when the sensors are active. The B790 AirPods may be marketed as a high-end AirPods Ultra model and are expected to be officially unveiled in September alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. The macOS leak also revealed codenames for other unreleased hardware, including a Home Hub and an iPhone Ultra foldable smartphone.
