Google Adds HiLight LED Notifications to Pixel 11 Pro

Google integrated a notification LED system called HiLight into the camera bars of the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The system alerts users to incoming calls and messages from favorite contacts and pulsates during Gemini AI assistant interactions when the phone is placed face-down.

Google designed the feature to minimize distractions and has promised future updates. However, current functionality is limited, as the system lacks customization options for colors or patterns and remains closed to third-party developers. The company has reserved HiLight exclusively for its premium Pro models, which start at $1,099.

Critics have compared the feature unfavorably to the Glyph system from Nothing. Unlike HiLight, Nothing's system offers extensive customization, app-specific alerts, and a Glyph Matrix capable of displaying timers and mini-games across its entire price range.
