Global Conflicts Drive Oil Refining Profits to Historic Highs

Global conflicts in Russia and the Middle East have reduced fuel-making capacity, driving oil refining margins to record levels in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Ongoing conflicts in Russia and the Middle East have triggered a historic surge in oil refining profits by reducing the global capacity to produce fuel. This shortage has forced refineries in unaffected regions to operate at maximum capacity, enabling them to command premium prices for diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel.

In the United States, refining margins on the Gulf Coast more than tripled this year, hitting an all-time high of $72 per barrel in September. Similar profit gains were recorded across refining hubs in Europe and Asia as they filled the supply gap created by the geopolitical instability.
