Michigan and South Carolina Hold Key Gubernatorial Debates
Candidates for governor in Michigan and South Carolina participate in televised debates ahead of their respective November general elections.
Candidates for governor in Michigan and South Carolina are engaging in televised debates as they enter the final month of their campaigns. In Michigan, Jocelyn Benson, the Secretary of State and Democratic candidate, is scheduled to debate Republican Congressman John James on Tuesday in Grand Rapids. Benson stated she is prepared to present her vision for the state's future, while James intends to highlight failures in Democratic leadership.
Other Michigan contests include a Thursday debate in Grand Rapids between Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for an open U.S. Senate seat. As of October 5, the Michigan Secretary of State reported that 125,635 residents, or roughly 1.7% of active registered voters, have already cast ballots for the November election.
In South Carolina, Democratic candidate Jermaine Johnson and Republican candidate Alan Wilson will debate on October 6 at the WIS studio in Columbia. The event will air live on WHNS FOX Carolina as the candidates compete to become the state's first new governor in a decade. While Johnson and Wilson are the primary participants, Michael Addison of the United Citizens party and Walid Hakim of the Green party also appear on the November 3 ballot. Early voting in South Carolina runs from October 19 to October 31.
