Iran Denies Internal Rift Over Strait of Hormuz Legislation

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed reports of a rift between the Iranian administration and the parliament concerning new maritime security legislation for the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is fully coordinated with the Islamic Consultative Assembly as parliamentary committees review a plan to manage traffic in the waterway.

To ensure cohesive pursuit of national interests, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently met with the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee. This follows the parliamentary commission for National Security and Foreign Policy's passage of a broad framework for a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering regional security and sustainable development in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Baghaei also reported that negotiations with Oman regarding a new traffic map and transit arrangements are proceeding in a smooth and constructive manner. However, he declined to provide specific details regarding transit fees during the briefing.
