Bitcoin Rises to $75,343 Following U.S. Treasury Intervention

Bitcoin is on track for a 20% weekly gain after U.S. Treasury debt buybacks lowered yields and triggered a massive short squeeze.

Bitcoin reached $75,343.01 on Friday, August 21, 2026, placing the cryptocurrency on track for a weekly gain of approximately 20%. The rally began Wednesday after the United States Department of the Treasury doubled buybacks of long-dated government debt. This intervention lowered Treasury yields and eased pressure on risk assets, triggering a broader move into cryptocurrency and a short squeeze that liquidated roughly $2.7 billion in short positions.

Market optimism increased as the White House and industry leaders pushed for the passage of the Clarity Act, a bill designed to end the current crypto winter, though its final passage remains uncertain. The surge extended to related crypto stocks, with MicroStrategy rising 7.8%, Coinbase closing up 7.5%, and Circle Internet Group gaining 6.45%.

Despite the current momentum, Bitcoin remains significantly below its 2026 peak of $94,820 and its all-time high of $126,198.
