Worcestershire County Council Plans A4103 Closure Amid A449 Shutdown

Worcestershire County Council will close the A4103 for a month starting July 20, compounding travel disruptions caused by a year-long closure of the A449.

The A4103 in Leigh Sinton will close 24 hours a day from July 20 to August 21, 2026, to facilitate a drainage connection installation by Shannonside Civil Engineering Ltd for Lioncourt Homes. The closure will force motorists onto a 35-mile diversion via Cradley, Bromyard, Broadwas, and Rushwick, adding approximately one hour to travel times.

This planned closure coincides with the ongoing shutdown of the A449 at British Camp, which has been closed since September 8, 2025, following a landslip. Worcestershire County Council defended the A449 closure as an emergency measure to prevent collapse and stated that the disruption on the A4103 is unavoidable due to developer requirements.

Dame Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, criticized the council for poor planning and consultation, claiming the highways team is blighting local businesses and communities. Dave Fereday, Chair of Leigh and Bransford Parish Council, also characterized the upcoming closure as chaotic.
