Adeleke Urges Voters to Resist Violence Ahead of Osun Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke spent August 1 and 2 campaigning for the August 15 governorship election, blending infrastructure projects with calls for peaceful voting. He commissioned the 10.4-kilometre Edunabon–Tonkere Road in Ife North, a project he stated ends 40 years of neglect. During a town hall meeting and a political rally in Ipetumodu, the governor urged residents to remain bold and resist intimidation, asserting that his record in healthcare, education, and infrastructure would secure him another mandate.

Speaking at Winners Chapel in Osogbo, Adeleke accused the opposition of resorting to violence because they realize defeat is imminent. He urged citizens to use their votes to punish those killing and maiming people. These security concerns follow a July 23 order by Adeleke to suspend all National Union of Road Transport Workers activities in motor parks to address political volatility.

In response to the tension, All Progressives Congress chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye called on Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo to maintain absolute neutrality. Oyintiloye demanded that security agencies protect the integrity of the ballot and arrest anyone fomenting trouble regardless of political status. He expressed confidence that APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji will win the election based on his leadership experience.
