Pentagon Breach Exposes Data of 3 Million Personnel

The Defense Manpower Data Center experienced a significant data breach that exposed the sensitive personal information of approximately 3.05 million people. The compromised data includes Social Security numbers and job details for 2.76 million living individuals and 294,000 deceased persons, comprising both military and civilian personnel. The unauthorized access occurred between October 2025 and July 2026, when the agency discovered and patched the vulnerability.

Defense officials stated there is currently no evidence that the stolen data has been misused. In response, the agency is providing credit monitoring and identity protection services to the affected individuals.

In a separate incident, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is responding to a breach of its unclassified jobs portal, FBIJobs.gov. Although a threat actor initially threatened to publish employee data, the hacking group shinyhunters later claimed the event was a marketing campaign and stated they would not release the information.
